Imagination is one of my strengths. I lean towards strategic overviews.
For example, recently I’ve been thinking of a world where we balance our carbon output and input. It seems likely that would be a world of less stuff, yet it could be a world of more enjoyment. I imagine a world where we work fewer hours, and enjoy them more. Where our time outside work is full of warm relationships and pleasure in the small tasks of daily living. Where we actually live better on less energy.
I imagine a spacefaring society where everyone has interesting challenges to meet and all their needs met. I imagine every child having access to the health care and education to become the best she or he could be. I imagine using our resources smartly, so that we enjoy doing all of this and still maintain an environmental balance on the home planet.
The full realization of this vision could take centuries. I don’t have the means to step directly from here to there. My own energy can only swing our world so much.
So, in the meantime, I do what I can. I take small steps. I change an incandescent light bulb for a compact fluorescent one. I cook occasional meals with the sun and dry clothes on the line. I spread information about best practices, and I help other people spread their information. I support my clients in taking their small steps.
This is the way to change the world - hold a vision and take the steps you can towards it.
And if the distance seems overwhelming, or the steps are hard to find, a coach can help.
It’s still summer. I had a family crisis when I would normally have written the previous issue. That took priority, and I missed the first issue in two and a half years.
May you live from your priorities and receive the help you need when you need it.
